FORMATTING AND MAKE-UP
We accept files in any format: text files (.doc, .rtf, .txt), Excel electronic tables (.xls), graphic files (.tif, .jpg, etc.), PowerPoint presentations (.ppt), PDF files, Web page files (.html), etc. If possible (and upon the customer’s request), we try to keep the format of a translated file as close to that of the original file as possible.
Automatic preservation of the format
If a document you need to have translated exists in electronic form (as a doc, txt, rtf, xls or rtf file), we may produce the translation in the original file – the text in the source language is simply replaced by the text in the target language and the format is automatically preserved.
A document to be translated contains no graphic and its design is simple. In this case, minimum formatting is required (selection of titles, creation of automatic lists or simple tables, insertion of a small amount of symbols or special characters, etc.), which we call “simple”. Simple formatting is included in the cost of translation.
- insertion of pictures, photographs and schemes into a translated document, as well as the replacement of notes in pictures, photographs and schemes in Adobe Photoshop. The cost of correction and insertion of one picture (photograph, scheme) is 2 euro or more, depending on the effort required;
- insertion of symbols (in case of a large number of symbols) and formulas. The surcharge is 2 euro or more per page, depending on the number of symbols and formulas.
Sometimes it is necessary to translate a document that exists only on paper, and this document might contain pictures and schemes with explanatory notes, which also have to be translated. Usually, such a document is a technical instruction for a device/unit. What is the best solution in this case? We offer document “digitization”. This conception includes document scanning and recognition of the text in a scanned document, followed by translation and “as in the original” formatting. All pictures and schemes are preserved during this process. Digitization is carried out using ABBYY FineReader. The final result is a file in Microsoft Word or PDF format. The surcharge for digitization is 2 euro or more per page in A4 format, depending on the effort required.
We usually make up translations in Microsoft Word. However, upon the customer’s request, we can use other programs to make translations up, for example, Adobe PageMaker or QuarkXPress.
Produced translations are usually given to the customer in electronic form. Upon the customer’s request, we can print them. The cost of black and white printing is 0.06 euros for an A4 page with the standard fulfillment density of 5-10%. The cost of color printing is as agreed upon with the customer.
